How it works

What happens before you teach

You open the file and teach, without an evening spent preparing. Here is the whole route, from choosing a material to what goes on inside the lesson itself.

The whole route

Eleven steps, one route

Pick what today's class needs

A full lesson, a short warm-up, one piece of language to drill, or a task that gets your group talking. Each family answers a different problem.

Open two ready files

Every lesson comes as two files, one for your students and one for you, set to look right in print and on screen.

Teach instead of preparing

The teacher version carries a note at every stage, rough timings and the full answer key, so you read the material once, in class.

Inside the lesson

Every lesson walks a learner along the same route, from the first thought about a topic to using new language in a conversation that goes somewhere.

Starting point

Your student works out what they already know about the topic and what they make of it.

Input

They read, watch or listen to something worth stopping over.

Language

They pick up the vocabulary, collocations and phrases this topic calls for, usually six or eight.

Recycling

They meet the same language a second time, before using it on their own.

Speaking

They use those phrases to say what they actually think.

Challenge

They rank the options, take a side and defend it, or try to talk someone round.

Back to real life

They tie the topic and the language to their own experience, rather than to an exercise on a page.

Hear it again

In lessons with a podcast, the same language returns in a natural conversation they can listen to afterwards.

Along the way

What you get along the way

Two ready files

You get a student version and a teacher version, both ready to print and to work from on screen.

Notes at every stage

Every exercise carries a rough timing and a hint on how to run it.

A full answer key

The teacher version holds the answers to every language task in the lesson.
